2021 Original Game Score of the Year

Well folks, look at this.. It's our 2021 Original Game Score of the Year Award! Yes, you heard correctly: 2021. It may be 2025 but as I've stated in other posts, the time to dedicate to video game music projects is just not what it once was. We still love putting these awards together and reviewing video game soundtracks in general, it just take more time. There is a benefit though... Releasing these awards a year or two—or three—later has been for the better when we consider how much it cost not only to purchase the soundtracks, but also the video games themselves to record the gameplay and cutscenes needed to create our videos. Being a few years after release give us a chance to purchase these on sale, rather than at full retail price as we used to do(and boy did that add up in price over the years). Some years added up to thousands in soundtracks alone. I know to most an explanation is not warranted but considering how seldom I have a chance to update this site, I felt compelled to put it out there into the ether.

2021 was an interesting year to be sure. I would not exactly say the most stellar for Video Game Music relatively, but there were plenty of individual rock, instrumental, orchestral, electronic and vocal tracks that were memorable and I've added plenty to my weekly vgm playlists. That being said, in this video we chose what we believe to be the top five Video Game Scores of 2021 and one of those lucky nominees is our winner for the year. It's quite something to look back at 2014 when we first started doing this. I have to say that overall, the animation, music, sound effects, and voice work has improved significant compared to ten years ago. It's fun to look back. I'll have to get some of our bloopers uploaded at some point, we have a few of those!
